I am often asked this question and truthfully, I am more than happy to answer it because what you wear to your session is an important part of creating great images. When you are making your clothing choices, it's best to choose simple, brightly colored clothing. (Patterns are good too, just remember to keep them minimal for group sessions.) Try to stay away from too much white or too much black, and please no large logos or character type clothing. Anything with texture photographs really well. (i.e. Denim, ruffles, embroidery, buttons, corduroy & chunky knits) Consider layering your clothing, this adds visual interest and also allows for easy wardrobe changes. Also consider your comfort, if a shirt is too short or too long, pants are too tight etc . . . you or your child will feel uncomfortable and it will make it difficult to relax , enjoy the session and achieve the best possible images.
For small children & babies, bare feet with minimal clothing are best. Hats almost always make great accessories. You might also want to include sunglasses, scarves, tutus, funky boots or shoes, etc... Remember, children don't like lots of wardrobe changes so try and aim for one outfit you are fond of.
Women, PLEASE wear your favorite heels! You will look and feel special in them which will definitely come across in your portraits. (Plus, you know I LOVE gorgeous shoes!) Feel free to bring some comfy shoes too, for times when we need to do some walking to find just the right location. (Or to chase your little ones! LOL!)
Couples, dress like your going out on a date because in essence you are. I like to tell couples to relax and enjoy your session together just like you would a date. Women, skirts, dresses, or dark jeans and heels work best. And men, consider dark jeans, or your favorite dress slacks paired with a button down shirt, polo and or sweater. But also try to keep your own personal style in mind too. My goal is to capture your special connection and tell your story.
Please contact me with any questions you may have concerning your clothing choices. I want you to have the best session ever! If you look great, you'll feel great and it will show!
