Little Man "B"

At 2 days old, sweet little "B" is the youngest baby to date that I have photographed. Of course, he is my nephew and that's why I had access to the cutie so fast. LOL! (I recommend newborns be photographed in the first two weeks of life for optimum results.) Anyway, he was a sleepy little guy and put up with all my crazy ideas like a trooper. Here's a sneak peek for his mama! Enjoy!

2009 { The Year in Review }

I am currently preparing to launch my brand new site and blog and I thought it was only fitting to make my last post on this blog a recap of 2009. It was such an amazing year for my business. I met and photographed loads of wonderful people. And, no, I'm not just saying that. LOL! So I must start by saying a huge THANK YOU to all my clients, who are now more like friends. I feel so fortunate to be able to capture the precious moments in your lives. I put together a little slideshow with some of my favorite images from this year. (Well it's not too little. LOL!) Miss. P - Part Two

This morning, was part two of Miss. P's session and it was fabulous! She was wide awake at first, but gave me some amazing eye contact. I mean seriously, newborns never do that! (She's only 11 days old, btw.) Then she fell fast a sleep and let us play with lots of fun poses and props. It was a great morning. Here's a peek at some of the great shots we got. Enjoy!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of photographing 4 day old sweet Miss. "P". She's an absolute doll! Seriously so cute! However, she wasn't in the mood for sleeping so we have rescheduled for next week. OpLove - a true hero

This morning I had an OpLove session(Operation Love Reunited) with the sweetest family. Little "T" is 4 months old and cute as a button. His dad is being deployed shortly after the holiday for about a year's time. So it was my mission today to capture some great shots for him to have while he's away. This afternoon, I had the pleasure of photographing *J* & *E* as they patiently await their baby girl's arrival. It was chilly, windy and we had a few inches of snow on the ground but that didn't stop these guys. They were such troopers and it totally shows. Balance

Balance has been on my mind quite a bit these days. Or I should say, my lack of balance. The fall season is a busy time of year for my business and can get quite stressful at times. Then throw into the mix 3 toddlers and a hubby to take care of and BAM... my balance gets thrown totally off. So this year, I promised myself to try and regain the balance in my life. I truely want to enjoy the holiday season and my kids. (Oh and actually spend some time with my hubby too. LOL!) And while I have to admit, I haven't been perfect, I am doing better.

I know this post probably seems like it came out of left field but like I said it's been on my mind a lot lately so I had to share. I realize it's a tough time of the year for everyone, the stress and pressure of the holiday season can become very overwhelming. So my hope for all of you is that you find your balance this holiday season too.

And speaking of balance, check out Allie's balancing act while brushing her teeth! She does this every night! So as you can imagine, I was thrilled when I got a picture of it. Enjoy!

Deadlines & Vacation!

Hey All-
I just wanted to remind everyone that the holiday order deadline is December 7th. All orders must be placed on or before then to guarantee holiday delivery. Also, I will be on vacation from December 15th - January 4th. When I return on the 5th, I will answer all emails and resume shooting. Now Booking '10

I am officially booked solid for '09 and will not be taking anymore sessions this year. The only exception will be newborns (babies under 2 weeks of life) due to the time sensitive nature of those sessions. I feel bad refusing all those that have contacted me over the past few weeks but really I just can't physically do anymore than I've already committed to. The good news, I am now booking '10. So if you missed your chance at an '09 session, consider booking for '10. I will continue shooting outside all winter... yes you read that right. Weather permitting, I will still be doing outdoor sessions and I am looking forward to snow sessions in particular. Contact me for more info if you are interested.

Going Green in 2010

In previous posts, I've been discussing the changes I'm making for 2010. Another change, I am very excited about is going green! I care about our planet and our children's future and I believe it important for all of us to do our part, however big or small it may be.

Previously I've welcomed all my clients with huge info packets in the mail, packaged all my orders with large boxes using loads of tissue paper etc... And while all these things look nice they really are wasteful.

In 2010, I will be creating online welcome packets for my clients. So now you will receive all your session info via PDF format on your computer. No more wasted paper or envelopes! All release forms and contracts will be signed digitally online as well. Another bonus, now you won't need to remember to bring them to your session! ;)

I've been working hard on coming up with green package solutions that were also top quality and still beautiful. So don't think you'll be getting orders in flimsy paper bags, LOL! I've found these GORGEOUS recycled card stock portfolios to present my orders in. Wait til you see them, I just know you'll love them!

I am also having all my new business cards and stationery printed on recycled card stock. I know all these things may seem small and simple, but again I truly believe every little bit counts. Stay tuned to the blog for more exciting 2010 news!

Exciting Changes for 2010

I mentioned in an earlier post that I would be announcing some new changes coming in 2010. I don't want to give too much away for now. But as I mentioned I will be updating my blog & website. I also have a new logo that I LOVE. I think it really portrays my style and encompasses my brand. Speaking of my style & brand, while working on updating my look, I have been thinking really hard about what I feel my style is. I have to admit this was not an easy task. I mean my style is my style ... LOL! But, that's why I have really decided to put emphasis on my tag line "portraits of life" because I really feel that describes my style. I want my portraits to capture moments and tell stories about your life. So tell me, when you think of my style what few words come to your mind? Leave me a comment below. Twice the fun!

This morning I had such a fun session with the most handsome 3 year old twin boys! *G* & *W* were awesome to photograph. We had a blast with sword fights, running competitions and we even visited with some geese. I know mom was worried we didn't get any good stuff, but man let me tell you it was just the opposite! This morning, I had a fun session with the "M" family. They are one BIG happy family! And when I say big, I mean 32 people with one on the way! And that's not including their parents. LOL! This morning I had a fun session with the *G* family at their fabulous home. I photographed them there last year so I knew it was going to be a blast this year too. Seriously, they have the best location for a session. I mean I could shoot there dozens of times and never do the same shot twice. Toady's hidden gem was a rusty old apple truck. OMG, it was love at first site, for me anyways. LOL! And the truck was the perfect addition to our apple themed session. Thanks so much guys for another wonderful morning. Alright everyone, my calendar is bursting at the seams! All the mini sessions are now booked. I have one spot left in October and two left for November for standard sessions. I will not be taking any sessions in December. I'm looking forward to spending the holidays with my family. The only exception is newborns. I always do my best to squeeze newborns in during the first two weeks of life.

So if you want a session before the holidays please contact me soon! Once they are gone, that's it. I am also starting to book '10. (For you planners out there!)

The order deadline this year will be December 7th. All orders must be placed before that date to guarantee Christmas delivery.

'09 Christmas Card Designs

Here they are, the much anticipated '09 Christmas card designs. These are 5x7 double sided press printed cards on card stock with plain white envelopes. They will be available for purchase in sets of 25 for $45/set.

So go ahead pick the design you love, and your favorite images from our session. Email me your choices, I'll send you a proof and then I'll get them ordered ASAP.

A few notes, cards must be ordered no later than 11/27 to guarantee holiday delivery. These cards are the only ones I'll be doing this year due to time constraints. That means no custom design orders. Sorry!

What to wear for fall sessions

What you wear to your session is an important part of creating great images. When you are making your clothing choices, it's best to choose simple, brightly colored clothing. (Patterns are good too, just remember to keep them minimal for group sessions.) Try to stay away from too much white or too much black, and please no large logos or character type clothing. Anything with texture photographs really well. (i.e. Denim, ruffles, embroidery, buttons, corduroy & chunky knits) Consider layering your clothing, this adds visual interest and also allows for easy wardrobe changes.

Another point I wanted to mention is notice that I don't have the siblings all matchy-matchy. While it's OK to have some things match, it really looks better if they aren't wearing the exact same thing. Choosing coordinating items rather than the exact same thing allows for more visual interest and helps to express the child's individuality.

Being a visual person myself, I wanted to show you a few examples of things that work really well.Hope this helps you plan better for our session. Looking forward to a wonderful fall season!

My Kiddos

I haven't posted pics of my own kiddos in ages, so here a few from yesterday. The babies, did great. I couldn't believe they actually let me photograph them. (Note to self, must stop calling them babies, they are two after all!) Emma however was not in the mood and this was the best I could get. LOL! The poor kids totally have "PCS" - Photographer's Child Syndrome.

Last year's mini sessions were a ton of fun and this year looks to be even better! I am so excited to announce the details for this year's sessions! So without further ado, here you go:

Just a few notes:
*The low resolution disk is intended for internet usage only! (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, email etc...) It is NOT intended for printing!

The high resolution image will be suitable for printing and will be accompanied by a copyright release so you may use it to print any size enlargement or even Christmas cards. Whatever you wish.

In the event of inclement weather we will reschedule for Sunday, November 8th.

Unlike a standard session, there will be no minimum purchase required.

Just a quick reminder, fall is almost here! I seriously can't wait, it's my favorite time of the year. I love everything about fall, the leaves, the crisp air, apple picking, pumpkins . . . . Tonight I had a fun session on a beautiful farm with a sweet senior *E*. She loves the farm and horses, so it was only appropriate that we shoot there. This morning I had a senior session with a beautiful girl, *A*. Funny that my last two seniors were both A's. Anyway, *A* is such a wonderful girl. This morning I had the pleasure of photographing the most handsome little men! Meet *C* & *K*, these guys are ten days old and sweet as can be! Most of you already know, but I have a soft spot for twins. (Having a set of my own.) Anyway, I shouldn't call them little men though, they weighed in at 7lbs 6ozs. and 8lbs 6ozs. Yes you read that right, they are big twins. They were excellent sleepers for their first photo session and I got some great shots! Here are a few teasers for now. Enjoy!

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning senior, meet *A*. She's beautiful, inside and out. Not to mention smart and funny. We spent a couple hours together for her session and had a complete blast! Oh the stories we could tell. LOL! Anyway, she was a trooper and up for anything I asked her to do. (Thanks for that, btw.) Even climbing through knee high grass with god knows what, lurking under foot to get "the shot" - see below. I think you'll agree, it was totally worth it! Tonight I had a fun session with with H. We headed up to the PHS baseball field were he spends a serious amount of his time. He loves baseball, so it was only fitting he have his session there. This morning I had a fun session with the "K" family. They are such a cute family! Mom was worried how little "B" would do but he was a natural and loved having his picture taken. And so did Miss. C&M {Connection Session)

Last night I had a wonderful connection session with C&M. It was a gorgeous warm evening with a light breeze and soft diffused beautiful lighting. I mean, seriously it was a night like photographers dream about! LOL! We had our session in a large open field just before sunset. I know, I am getting kind of obsessed with fields lately. But they work so well! And last night was no exception, as I am sure you will agree when you see the images. But first a big thank you to C&M. You guys were troopers! N&J {Connection Session}

I had a fun session tonight with N&J at Worcetser State College! (Their alma mater, and where they fell in love. Perfect location for their session!) Seriously the stories we could tell... To start, our session almost wasn't a session, it was a gorgeous day until about two hours before hand, then the skies seriously opened up and poured! I called "N" on her cell and we decided to wait til the very last minute to make the final decision. Literally as I was driving to our session, it was raining, sunny and raining again! I really wasn't sure what was going to happen. But when we arrived, so did the sun! The weather turned out just perfect. (Which I know in my heart is good luck! These two are going to have a fabulous wedding day! I just know it!) Anyway, then let's just say we ran into a series of very interesting people who all had their own opinions about photography! LOL! Oh and poor "J", I kept calling him Dan all night! I mean seriously how could I keep screwing that up! It was probably pretty annoying...but being the great guy he is, he never said anything, just laughed. Thanks for putting up with me! Here's a few for now. Enjoy!

Making the most of your session

So your all excited, you've booked your session, but now what? You want your session to be the best it can be and honestly, who wouldn't? Well, there are some things you can do to better your session experience.

1.) LOCATION- choosing a location for your session is important. You should try and pick someplace that is special or has meaning to you. Somewhere you are comfortable and like to spend time. This will help make your images more personal for you and your family.

2.) CLOTHING- what you wear to your session is an important part of creating great images. When you are making your clothing choices, it's best to choose simple, brightly colored clothing. (Patterns are good too, just remember to keep them minimal for group sessions.) Try to stay away from too much white or too much black, and please no large logos or character type clothing. Anything with texture photographs really well. (i.e. Denim, ruffles, embroidery, buttons, corduroy & chunky knits) Consider layering your clothing, this adds visual interest and also allows for easy wardrobe changes. Also consider your comfort, if a shirt is too short or too long, pants are too tight etc . . . you or your child will feel uncomfortable and it will make it difficult to relax , enjoy the session and achieve the best possible images. For more information on what to wear, please read this.

3.) TIME- What time you schedule your session is also very important. Your session can take 1 -2 hours, please consider that when selecting a time. It puts a strain on our time together if you need to rush or you are thinking about where you need to be at such and such a time. Also, if children are going to be part of our session please consider their best time of day. Try scheduling your session for shortly after a nap. Waking a child for our session or keeping them awake during nap time will definitely make our session more difficult.

4.) RELAX & ENJOY- This is probably the most important part of creating a great session. If you are relaxed and enjoying yourself it will show! My goal is for you to have a great time and relax while I shoot pictures that tell your story.

I hope this helps you to better prepare for your session. I plan to write more articles on specific session types and get more detailed about what to expect at your session and even have a behind the scenes video of a live session in the coming weeks. So stay tuned!

D & E Engagement Session

Last night I had an engagement session with D & E. It was a nice warm evening with a glowing sunset at a beautiful park. It was seriously picture perfect...no pun intended. Oh but I forgot to mention one little thing, we were under attack by swarms of bugs!! And I mean swarms! Seriously typing this now, I am still itching all over. I don't know if the sudden heat wave just woke them all up at once or what but man they were awful! Luckily we were able to tolerate them long enough to get some great shots! An amazing family

Today I had the pleasure of doing a session for "The Littlest Heroes Project" with the "B" family. And boy, it was such a wonderful experience. I really feel privileged to have met and photographed this amazing family! Mr. "L" suffered a brain injury due to stroke' from an unknown cause during mom's pregnancy. This injury has left him legally blind along with other limitations. But, I'll tell you what, he's one sweet little man! And happy, oh boy was he ever! All I had to do was say HI and he lit right up! Too bad it's not always that easy to get people to smile! LOL! Anyway, I just want to thank Mr.L, his big sis Miss. C and mom for sharing their story with me. I had a fun maternity session tonight! It was a total blast! I have really been wanting to photograph a pregnant women in an open field like this. So you can imagine my excitement when I pulled up to this couple's house and saw this amazing field! (And of course, the beautiful mama-to-be) I was silently freaking out! (I know, I'm a dork!LOL!) Anyway, mama-to-be was such a trooper, willing to trample through the fields even with swollen feet! So thanks, I think you will agree, it was totally worth it when you see the shots. Here's just one, a sneak peek for now...I gotta get some sleep. But I'll have the rest to you real soon. Oops, almost forgot, a big thanks to daddy-to-be, you were a big help!

All the kids had a great time braving the freezing cold weather on Easter to find eggs! (And yes, the freezing cold temps are to blame for the lovely attire! LOL! They all looked adorable in the warm house without all the mismatched leggings, hats and coats!)Anyway, here are a few quick snapshots from the hunt! Enjoy!
